In 1977, one of the first jobs the young Ryuichi Sakamoto undertook was composing music for commercials. Starting with "Marui's Glasses," he went on to compose music for numerous advertisements, eventually appearing as a performer himself. Since the 2000s, he has turned his attention to social issues and begun to reexamine his own relationship with advertising. In this session, special guests Shuta Hasunuma and Megumi Wakabayashi will be joining us to listen to Sakamoto's advertising music, including recordings that have not yet been released on CD, and discuss the relationship between advertising, culture, and society in each era.
