symphil-シンフィル
symphil

The new Philharmonic returns after a five-year hiatus. Since the release of their previous album, they've performed at FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL '19 in 2019, performed a solo concert at Hibiya Open-Air Concert Hall, and staged a much-anticipated, unannounced guerrilla concert in Ginza. Following the pandemic, Hasunuma returned to Japan from Brooklyn, New York, and released the Philharmonic's remotely streamed single "Imr." They also held a self-produced livestream concert "#API Spiral," performed "○→○" at Orchard Hall during the state of emergency, appeared at the opening ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, contributed to soundtracks for dramas and films, launched a solo digital music release project, and performed "Shoku" at Ebisu Garden Hall at the end of 2022. This is the first studio album in roughly five years from Shuta Hasunuma's main project, "Shuta Hasunuma Philharmonic." The album began production in 2019 and was completed in winter 2022, roughly three years in the making. It contains 10 tracks.

The title "symphil" is a word coined by Hasunuma. "Sym-" means "together." "Phil-" means "to love something." By combining these words, the album was named "Symphil," with the nuance of a "new Phil."

The themes running throughout the album are "recovery" and "coexistence." The concept is "cherishing yourself, and living together with others and the world outside of yourself, while affirming it." How can we create a situation while empathizing with and understanding the situation in modern society, without trying to change or resist it? This concept was born out of the recording work with Shuta Hasunuma Philharmonic Orchestra in the summer of 2022, which was the first time in several years, and the conversations and losses he experienced with people he hadn't seen for a while, friends and colleagues, during the recording period.

The album includes the previously released songs "HOLIDAY," "Eco Echo," and "Koukou," as well as the album's version of "Mayoiga," a song by Hitsuji Kagaku featuring Hasunuma Shuta Philharmonic. It also includes the light-hearted "GPS," which opens the album, "Yu 5ji," a reworking of the theme song for the NHK General News program "LIVE! Yu 5ji," and the over 10-minute instrumental masterpiece "BLACKOUT."
The mix was done by band member Toshihiko Kasai, the mastering was done by Dave Cooley, the jacket illustration was by Johanna Tagada Hoffbeck, and the design was done by Akira Sasaki.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0840/9727/0080/files/DDCB13054_HasunumaPhil_JKT_3000-scaled_5c0bcf9d-a21e-4acd-8628-59c9121bb083.jpg?v=1755340578
